Tool making Resources:

NOTE:  This site is still under construction@ March-2014.  I am adding the section on Jigs and Gadgets.

Supplies:

Wholesale Tool – HSS Tool bits (one of many types.) http://www.wttool.com/index/page/category/category_id/19954/

Harbor Freight – HSS Tool bit set.  http://www.harborfreight.com/5-piece-m2-high-speed-steel-mini-tool-bits-for-metalworking-lathes-40641.html

Cold rolled Steel.  http://www.onlinemetals.com/merchant.cfm?pid=7175&step=4&showunits=inches&id=230&top_cat=197  Note: Steel comes in other shapes.

You can also find this at most hardware stores, and at Mine & Mill in Lakeland Florida (full 20’ length only.)

You can use hot rolled steel, and some hardware stores sell round rod with a zinc/tin coat.  I like the cold rolled as it is stiffer.

Other sources of tool making material is:  Engine valve stems, Auto Shock absorber shafts (need to remove from absorber – somewhat messy)

There are a lot of other sources of good steel to work with.  Just keep your eyes open.

Jigs and Gadgets:

Tool sharping – home made grinder jigs.  Simple    Complex

Jigs and Gadgets:  FWS & WTOPC Presentation & Photos.  Pages 1-8,    Pages 9-11    Pages 12-17.

If you want to work the steel, then I recommend you seek some instructions in blacksmithing.

There are a lot of resources on the web, and schools for short courses.  The following link is a good one:
